Project Overview

BetFlow is a full-featured sports betting platform covering Football (Premier League, Champions League, Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A), Basketball, Tennis, American Football, Cricket, Rugby, Baseball, MMA, and Esports. The platform targets serious bettors who demand real-time odds, in-play markets, and a betslip-first workflow — alongside casual users who want to place a quick accumulator on the weekend fixtures.

The design challenge: sports betting is a high-frequency, high-stakes domain where users make split-second decisions. The interface needed to surface live odds across a wide range of markets while keeping the betslip — the core conversion point — always immediately accessible without disrupting event browsing.

Design Challenges

• Designing a dashboard that surfaced live in-play events (with real-time score updates) and today's top markets without cognitive overload.
• Building a persistent right-panel Betslip that showed selections, odds, stake input, and estimated returns — updating live as odds shifted — without covering primary content.
• Handling multiple bet types (Singles, Accumulator, Each-Way) within a single compact betslip panel, with clear total calculation and one-tap "Place Bet" CTA.
• Designing odds formats (Decimal / Fractional / US) and currency/region switching that persisted globally across sessions.
• Integrating Responsible Gambling controls (deposit limits, self-exclusion, cooling-off periods) in a way that felt supportive rather than punitive.

Design Process

1. Research: Audited Bet365, Betway, and DraftKings UX; identified that betslip friction (hidden, modal-based, or multi-step) was the primary cause of abandoned bets.
2. Information Architecture: Built a dual-navigation structure — top sport tabs for quick switching, left sidebar for detailed sport subcategories and account access — mirroring the mental model of experienced bettors.
3. In-Play Dashboard: Designed a live event ticker with real-time score badges, team flags, match time, and one-click odds buttons — so users could move from browsing to placing a live bet with minimal friction.
4. Betslip Panel: Placed a persistent right-column betslip on desktop with Singles/Accumulator toggle, quick-stake buttons, real-time return calculation, and a primary "Place Bet" button with account balance always visible.
5. Visual System: Dark charcoal/near-black background with selective amber/gold accents for odds buttons and primary CTAs — creating a high-contrast, focused environment appropriate for low-light viewing during live matches.
6. Responsible Gambling: Designed an always-visible "Safer Gambling" panel in the sidebar with limit management surfaced prominently — compliant with UK Gambling Commission requirements.

Outcome

BetFlow's design achieves the rare balance in sports betting: professional-grade depth for power users (multi-sport, multi-market, live in-play) with a clean enough layout that casual bettors can place a weekend accumulator quickly and confidently. The persistent betslip and real-time odds system keep the core conversion path friction-free throughout the entire session.
